My Barossa Day #24 - Not Just Wine Weekend

A guest submission from Ryan Remillard from Fleur Social

My ideal Barossa day is about more than just wine.

Day 1 – Saturday

Browse the Barossa Farmers Market for some locally grown fruit and veg, try fresh pastries and grab some preserves to take home, then head over to Fleur Social in Nuriootpa for a breakfast done differently.

Focusing on using local produce and producers try out a classic avocado smash using Barossa Cheese’s feta and Tathra Estate Ethiopian spiced dukkha, or maybe a BEC bagel with a Barossa Bagel, Riverside pastured eggs and Dairyman heritage bacon. Pair your breakfast with the best coffee in the valley! Pouring single origin beans freshly roasted by Barossa Coffee Roasters together with Jersey Fresh milk, or for non-coffee drinkers try the Barossa Breakfast Tea, blended locally by Scullery Made Tea.

Day 2 - Sunday

Start your Sunday off with a coffee and muffin from Darling’s Food with Passion Café in Tanunda. Open from 6am, get in early then head up to Kaiserstuhl Conservation Park. Offering a couple of different length loops showcasing the landscape, it also offers the opportunity to see kangaroos up close. After the bushwalk it’s time for breakfast!!

Head into Greenock and stop at El Estanco for your breakfast, right on Murray Street in a character building, they offer a beautifully simple breakfast menu. Order from the chalkboard behind the bar and grab yourself the chili eggs or truffled omelette, seriously good food. Abby and Julien are part of the new wave of foodies in the Barossa, celebrating wholesome, seasonal and local produce and utilising their own small market garden behind the café to good use, this is a place not to be missed.

When you’re done wander down the street for a craft beer tasting at Greenock Brewers. Situated in the old wheat store, you’ll find a small brewery and tasting room, try the Victorville Ale, a sessionable American Pale Ale. After a taste, head up the road where you’ll find a hidden gem of a winery, Izway Wines. Izway are producing small batch boutique wines and sharing them with you in a cosy, contemporary space nestled between their vines. Pop in and have a chat with them and you’ll leave laughing and have a few bottles for the cellar. For lunch head over to Benno’s Kiosk and Picnic grounds located behind Seppeltsfield Winery. Have a platter and a Barossa Coffee Roasters pick me up then wander the grounds for a bit, stopping in at the Jam Factory and Vasse Virgin for a browse. Cruising on and passing through Marananga pop into the cool Seppeltsfield Rd Distillers. Built into the hillside using shipping containers and showcasing their beautiful copper Carl Still, they are distilling small batch spirits with a blend of the finest sensory-selected botanicals.

Finish off your delicious day with a local’s secret dinner, burgers at Three75Bar+Kitchen. Located at The Louise luxury accommodation, you’ll find Bar Louise. With a stunning view of the Barossa Valley, sit out on the patio and try the Club Sandwich, rated as the top club sandwich in Australia it’s a great way to finish off your ‘It’s not just wine weekend!'
